GUWAHATI: A group of bike smugglers clashed with police officers in the Khanka area of Sijubari on Friday, leaving nine personnel from Hatigaon police station with minor injuries.

The incident occurred around 7:30 PM when the police attempted to apprehend a gang of five smugglers who had travelled from Meghalaya to Guwahati to collect bikes, reportedly for illegal sale in Bangladesh. Acting on a tip-off, the police launched an operation, which soon escalated into a confrontation.
The smugglers resisted arrest, damaging a police vehicle and attempting to flee. In the ensuing scuffle, nine officers sustained minor injuries.
Four suspects, identified as Anowar Hussain from 13 Mile, Sonapur, Hirakjyoti Boro from Digarubotakuchi, Sonapur, Dhanjyoti Doloi from Jogdal, Sonapur, and Samiran Das from Bapuji Nagar, Goalpara, were apprehended. One suspect managed to escape and remains at large.
Speaking to GPlus, an official from Hatigaon Police Station confirmed, "We managed to nab four of them, and one is still at large. Investigation is ongoing."
