Young Minds Compete In Guwahati City Chess Championship 2024

 

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati City Chess Championship 2024, featuring Under-9 and Under-13 categories, started on October 19 at Shikshak Bhawan, R.G. Baruah Road. The tournament, organised by the Guwahati City Chess Association, follows the Swiss league format with classical time control and will conclude on October 20.

In the Under-13 Boys category, Jishnu Ranjan Das, Harsha Deep Deka, Anish Goswami, and Bhaumik Kishore Das are tied for the lead, each securing 3 points after three rounds. Among the girls in the Under-13 category, Ritisha Mayra Rajbongshi and Ameya Gupta are jointly leading with 3 points apiece.

In the Under-9 Boys category, Reyan Nobis, Aryan Chariyo, Sarasvat Deka, Barnil Baishya, Mahir Jain, and Sharavast Sarma are all leading the field with 3 points after three rounds. Meanwhile, in the Under-9 Girls category, Dhanyata Goswami holds the sole lead with 3 points, followed by Chaarvi Shree Barman, Abri Nayla Bora, and Akanksha Kalita, each trailing slightly with 2.5 points.

The event was inaugurated by Mukuta Deka, President of the Guwahati City Chess Association and Vice Chairman of the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA). Also present at the opening ceremony were Dr Siben Dutta, Working President of the association, alongside Vice Presidents Dr Devajit Sarma and Antanta Goswami.

The tournament is being overseen by Chief Arbiter, FIDE Arbiter Pranab Kumar Nath, with assistance from International Arbiter Monimala Sinha, Senior National Arbiter Khanindra Barman, National Arbiter Sankar Barooah, and Prayag Hazarika.

The prize distribution ceremony is scheduled for tomorrow, October 20, at 4:30 pm.
