GUWAHATI : The garbage collecting NGOs affiliated with the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) have been charging more than the required amount to the households in certain areas of Guwahati.

Residents of Borbari, VIP Road area reached out to G Plus to bring the matter to light.

The same was taken by G Plus and information was forwarded to the GMC.The GMC Joint Commissioner Siddhartha Goswami taking cognisance of the matter, clarified that Rs 30 is the designated price per month of the NGO household collection.

The NGO designated to the Borbari area was found charging Rs 50 to the residents. The NGO, when contacted, told G Plus that the rise in price is due to the GMC's push for self-sustainability.

However, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation has not specified any hike in rates in their push for self-sustainability of the NGOs. So, the question arises whether NGOs are charging high rates for garbage collection in an autonomous manner.

Meanwhile, few of the other NGOs involved in garbage collection in Guwahati told G Plus that no such notification for the rise of prices has been received so far.
