Guwahati: Alleged Cotton University Students Bash up Local Food Vendor, Destroy Premises

GUWAHATI: A scuffle broke out between allegedly a few boarders of Cotton University hostel and the owner and employees of The Delhi 6 BBQ, a popular food joint located on Cotton University Road in the Panbazar area of Guwahati. The incident happened on the night of February 16.

G Plus spoke to Sameer Ahmed, owner of The Delhi 6 BBQ who is currently injured. He said, "Two students came to get water bottles from our shop. After a brief conversation with a Hindi-speaking employee, the boys became violent, repeatedly demanding the reason as to why my employees don't know how to speak in Assamese. They have come here from Jaipur and Ajmer and still trying to learn. I am trying my best to familiarise them, but did they deserve to get beaten up because they are trying to earn an honest living?"

Ahmed described the incident as extremely unfortunate for him. He told G Plus that along with the losses incurred from the destruction of his shop, a sum of Rs 35,000 rupees is missing from the premises. He suffered severe blows to his head, ribs and torso and has sought medical help; his employees have suffered the same.

"My employees and I were asked to kneel down and apologise for no fault of ours. When we refused, the students brought more than 50 people to beat us up." On asked whether he was sure about the identity of the accused students and whether they were from Cotton University, Ahmed reiterated that the students had previously visited his shop and he can identify them by face.

An FIR vide case number 95 has been registered at the Panbazar Police Station, Guwahati. This is a developing story as more details are awaited.
