GUWAHATI: Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport has experienced a remarkable surge in non-scheduled flight movements over the last six months, reflecting the increasing government, non-government, and business activities in the city.

This trend indicates the airport's growing significance as a pivotal transportation hub in the region.

From April 23, LGBI Airport has witnessed a total of 610 non-scheduled flights, encompassing private and chartered flights.

The monthly breakdown of these movements is as follows:

-April: 186 non-scheduled flights
-May: 114 non-scheduled flights
-June: 72 non-scheduled flights
-July: 46 non-scheduled flights
-August: 47 non-scheduled flights
-September: 144 non-scheduled flights

This growth in non-scheduled flights depicts Guwahati's evolving role as a centre for various activities, making it an attractive destination for travel.

Furthermore, in September 2023, LGBI Airport served 4.6 lakh passengers, marking a remarkable 22% increase compared to the same month in the previous year (September 2022), which had 3,58,297 passengers.

Another critical metric is air traffic movement (ATM), where the airport witnessed nearly 4,000 movements in September 2023, reflecting a notable 19% surge compared to September 2022, which had 3,216 ATM.

Utpal Baruah, Chief Airport Officer, commented on this growth, saying, "It has repeatedly established the fact that LGBI Airport has a huge potential for growth. It is the most convenient and reliable mode of transportation from this region. The growth also indicates the emerging market in the Northeast region."
