GPS to be installed in city buses in Kamrup (M): DTO

GUWAHATI : The District Transport Office, Kamrup (M) on January 21, has launched an operation in Beltola area under the supervision of DTO Bapan Kalita. The operation has been launched against the violation of rules by city buses.

DTO officer Bapan Kalita announced that GPS will be soon installed in the city buses to keep a check on the violation of rules by the buses. Further he said that the step is taken in order to curb many factors such as unnecessary halt at a bus stoppage for more than the required time, to reduce chaos and stop violation of traffic rules in the road.

“With the installation of GPS we will be able to track the violators and if required take strict actions against them,” added Bapan Kalita. The DTO had earlier provided Time Card and also introduced new rules for city buses.

Earlier on January 9, the Gauhati High Court asked the transport department to install GPS in all city buses plying in the city.

The court directed the commissioner of the state transport department to ensure that the GPS is installed in the buses within the next six weeks.

The directives were issued by Chief Justice Ajai Lamba and Justice Soumitra Saikia during the hearing of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Rita Das Mozumdar to ease traffic snarls in the city.

Further, the High Court asked the transport department to ensure that all doors of the buses are fixed properly keeping in mind the safety of the passengers.
