Govt Issues Toll Free No. to Complain Against Abnormal Vegetable Prices

GUWAHATI: Amidst the spiking prices of onions, Food and Supplies Minister Phani Bhushan Choudhury stated to give a relief on the price hike.

Assam government has issued a toll free number (1800-3453-611/1967) for consumers who are charged more than the prescribed rate fixed by the state govt at Rs. 66.

The minister said that the current spike in onion prices is due to the excessive rainfall due to which the farmers couldn’t harvest the crop on time.

In the meanwhile the local vendors speaking to G Plus said that they are buying onion from the Fancy Bazar wholesale market at Rs. 64-65, hence they are unable to sell the same to the end consumers at Rs. 66.

"We are unable to sell at Rs. 66, what does the govt knows? we have to pay for the transportation and labour charge till here," said a local vendor in the Dispur Supermarket.
