Govt Advisory Issued To States As Zika Virus Cases In Maharashtra Rises

 

GUWAHATI: In response to the recent Zika virus cases reported from Maharashtra, the Union Health Ministry has issued an advisory urging all states to remain vigilant. The advisory states the importance of screening pregnant women for Zika virus infection and closely monitoring the growth of fetuses in mothers who test positive for the virus.

Key measures outlined in the advisory include:

States have been advised to screen pregnant women for Zika virus and monitor the growth of fetuses in those who test positive to ensure timely medical intervention.
   
Health facilities and hospitals have been instructed to appoint a nodal officer responsible for ensuring that the premises remain free of Aedes mosquitoes, the primary carriers of the Zika virus.

States have also been urged to enhance entomological surveillance and intensify vector control activities. These efforts have to be focused on residential areas, workplaces, schools, construction sites, institutions, and health facilities to prevent the spread of the virus.
