•    No Re-NEET for NEET-UG 2024: The petitioners have requested the Supreme Court to issue a writ of mandamus, directing the National Testing Agency (NTA) to refrain from cancelling the NEET-UG 2024 examination. They argue that re-conducting the exam would unfairly penalise honest students who cleared it through hard work and diligence.
•    Fundamental Rights and Article 14: The petition asserts that cancelling the NEET-UG 2024 results would violate the fundamental rights of the students under Articles 14 and 21A of the Indian Constitution. It emphasises the disproportionate impact on students who have prepared rigorously for the exam over several years.
•    Media-Induced Stress: The constant media coverage calling for a Re-NEET has created significant anxiety among students who passed the exam legitimately. The petition highlights the mental pressure and stress faced by these young students due to the uncertainty surrounding the examination results.
•    Targeting Malpractices: The petition also calls for the identification and strict action against those candidates and centres involved in malpractices such as paper leaks, impersonation, and other fraudulent activities.

The NEET-UG 2024 examination, conducted by the NTA on May 5, has been marred by allegations of widespread malpractices. Numerous petitions have been filed, seeking cancellation of the results and a fresh examination due to reported paper leaks and arbitrary granting of grace marks to 1,536 candidates.

The Union Government informed the Supreme Court about its decision to cancel the grace marks. Despite this, the Supreme Court’s vacation bench refused to halt the upcoming counselling and seat allotment process for NEET-UG 2024, which is set to begin on Saturday.
