Assam Governor Gives Assent to Convert Madrassas into Regular Schools

The Assam Repealing Bill, 2020 that abolishes madrassas of the state and instead convert them into regular educational institutions has received the assent of Governor, Professor Jagdish Mukhi. 

 

Announcing the news, education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to his Twitter handle to state, “Historic & Progressive! Glad that The Assam Repealing Act 2020 has received the assent of Hon Governor & has come into effect. Madrassa Edu Provincialisation Act, 1995 and Assam Madrassa Education Act, 2018 stand repealed. All govt Madrassas will run as general education inst.”

 

The Madrassa Bill was passed last December by the Assam Assembly. With the Governor's assent, all state-run Madrassas will be converted into regular schools.
