GUWAHATI: A significant haul of gold was seized by the Government Railway Police (GRP) along with customs officers of the anti-smuggling unit, at the Guwahati Railway Station.
The above authorities intercepted an individual travelling by Rajdhani Express at Guwahati Railway Station recently. Acting on prior intelligence, on investigation the officers discovered pieces of gold concealed inside the waistline of the individual’s trousers.
The total weight of the seized gold amounted to 2.4 kilogram. Upon inspection, it was revealed that the gold pieces had a purity of 99.9% and were of 24 karat quality. However, no legitimate documentation pertaining to the possession of the gold was found in the individual’s possession.
Talking to GPlus, SRP Assam, Debashish Bora said, “The estimated value of the seized gold is approximately ₹1.4 crore. The person has been apprehended.”
Further investigation is ongoing.
