GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has decided to increase the fine for throwing waste/garbage on the road to Rs 5,000.

Earlier, the fine was not fixed and would start from Rs 500 to more depending on the gravity of the situation.

"The GMC faces a lot of challenges as people don't throw waste on the stipulated points, which clogs the drains," GMC Collector Navdeep Changmai told G Plus.

The move is aimed to make the working of the municipal board more effective.

"To make it more effective and efficient GMC has imposed Rs.5000.00 penalty for throwing waste materials on-road," posted GMC on their Facebook page.
