GUWAHATI: On this International Labour Day, GMC Mayor, Mrigen Sarania and councillors of Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) came together to announce a 30% increase in salary and ESIC benefits for all employees and workers under GMC (both permanent and contractual), as per reports.
They also delegated to implement a range of different measures to improve the working conditions of the labours along with steps to control the air pollution, in the city.
The Mayor undertook a plantation drive in the GMC Office at Betkuchi, in an attempt to promote the increase of the city’s forest cover. This programme was proceeded by a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a set of Road Sweepers & Backhoe Loaders to maintain cleanliness & promote hygiene throughout the city.
Sarnia along with the city’s ward councillors then proceeded to the Harijan Colony in Fatasil, wherein they had lunch with them and along with a profound discussion on their challenges, concerns & grievances and also focused on the newly announced hike and benefits.
Speaking at the event, the Mayor emphasised the importance of workers in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in Guwahati city, stating, "It is essential to have an inclusive approach towards development, and today's event is a testament to that. We are committed to making our city more eco-friendly and clean, and we will work towards that with the help of the community. We also promise to provide health camps at Fatasil and Ulubari for maintaining the good health of the working community. Further, the workers should also emphasize good education for their children so that they can go on and become officers of the Corporation. To facilitate this, the state of schools under the Corporation will be revamped."
