GUWAHATI: A ‘Gharial’ was stoned to death by villagers in Assam’s Chirang district. The Gharial has gone locally extinct from Assam’s river system, though, its rejuvenation was short-lived as the panicked villagers killed the reptile before the forest officials arrived.
According to a report published by the TOI, the 5.11-ft-long female gharial was spotted at a sluice gate.
According to the forest officials, the animal must have swam from Bhutan as earlier, there were reports of sightings of Gharial in the border areas.
