Gaurav Gogoi Raises Concern Over Pollution Levels In Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Gaurav Gogoi, Member of Parliament from the Kaliabor constituency and deputy leader of the Congress party in the Lok Sabha, has drawn attention to Guwahati being ranked as the second most polluted city, according to data shared by the World Air Quality Report 2023. 

Expressing alarm over the escalating pollution levels, Gogoi emphasised the imminent threat posed to the health of citizens, particularly children and the elderly.

In his capacity as the convenor of the Parliamentarians’ Group on Clean Air, MP Gogoi revealed that he has repeatedly written to the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, urging immediate corrective measures to address the concerning pollution levels. 

He further criticised the government's lack of concern, particularly emphasising the failure of the "double engine sarkar" to address the issue effectively, referring to the combined governance at the state and central levels.

Gogoi also posted letters that he had written to CM Sarma over the last three years regarding this issue.
