GUWAHATI: Gauhati University is preparing to take strict action against affiliated colleges that fail to upload student marks correctly and on time. The university has made it clear that repeated errors in mark submission , especially internal and practical marks, are causing widespread result delays, and from now on, entire college results may be withheld if such mistakes continue to occur.

This decision comes amid frustration among students over repeated delays in the declaration of examination and re-evaluation results. For many, the uncertainty has become a serious concern, especially with exam notifications being released even as past results remain pending.
Talking to GPlus, a senior Gauhati University official admitted that internal procedural lapses by several colleges are a major cause behind these delays. “The results get held up because some colleges fail to upload marks accurately. Either they enter internal marks in the wrong section meant for practicals, or forget to upload internal assessments altogether. These errors force us to go back, ask for corrections, and that delays the entire process,” the official said.
He further revealed that out of the 300-odd colleges affiliated to Gauhati University, around 30 to 40 instituted are consistently at fault. “If they repeat the same mistakes, we will take strict action by withholding the results of the entire college. No student from such institutes will be able to view their marks,” he added firmly.
The warning comes at a time when hundreds of students are already struggling with lack of clarity over their academic standing.
Talking to GPlus, a fourth semester student from NEF College said, “The university is playing with our future. They have not declared the re-evaluation results, but the form fill-up notice is already out. And now they’ve issued the examination schedule. How are we supposed to prepare when we don’t even know how many marks we got in each subject?”
He added, “After re-evaluation results are announced, students should be given at least 30 days to prepare. Right now, there is no such clarity.”
Another student from a reputed college in Guwahati talking to GPlus said, “They delay the results every time. This time too, we are still waiting for re-evaluation results. The confusion is constant."
When asked about the delay in re-evaluation, the senior university official clarified that the process is ongoing but time-consuming. “It’s a procedure. The number of students affected is not large, mostly those with repeated backlogs or multiple re-check requests. We have extended dates where necessary, but students often remain unaware of official notices,” he said.
According to the university, students are expected to regularly check official notifications posted on the Gauhati University website or their college notice boards. However, many claim that updates are either not timely or not properly communicated by their colleges.
