GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court has reportedly rejected the bail applications of Sumi Borah, Bishal Phukan, and Tarkik Borah in connection with a case registered at Barbarooah police station in Dibrugarh on Monday, February 17. The hearing, where the government was represented by Public Prosecutor Makhan Phukan, upheld the police's request to keep the accused in custody.

Bishal Phukan, a resident of Dibrugarh, was arrested following revelations of an alleged online trading scam. Investigations indicate that Sumi Borah, also from Dibrugarh, played a crucial role in the operation. Phukan referred to her as his sister and even financed her extravagant wedding in Udaipur last year.
Reports suggest that Borah was responsible for managing high-profile clients for Phukan, including doctors, actors, actresses, and politicians. Leveraging her connections in the Assamese film industry, she reportedly convinced multiple individuals to invest in Phukan’s fraudulent scheme.
Phukan allegedly hosted grand parties in Guwahati, offering expensive gifts to attract investors, while Borah used her network and influence to encourage significant financial contributions. Authorities have revealed that several doctors from Dibrugarh district fell victim to the scheme, having been persuaded by actress Sumi Borah to invest in Phukan’s firm with promises of high returns.
Apart from the Barbarooah case, the trio is also facing charges in a separate case at Duliajan police station. Notably, they had previously secured bail in a different case registered at Dibrugarh police station, but their latest bail plea has been denied by the Gauhati High Court.
