GUWAHATI: A major water pipeline leakage at Chandmari on Thursday, May 1, led to severe waterlogging in the area, leaving commuters and residents stranded due to an artificial flood. The incident occurred near the Chandmari food joint, where gushing water rapidly flowed downhill, rendering the road temporarily inaccessible.

Eyewitnesses reported that the situation escalated around 9:15 PM. “We saw the situation around 9:15 PM and the gushing water has made the road inaccessible,” said a bystander speaking to GPlus.
The leak caused massive disruption to traffic and raised concerns about the maintenance of underground utility systems in the area. Many vehicles were forced to turn around or wait for the water level to recede, while pedestrians struggled to navigate the flooded stretch.
An official from the Guwahati Jal Board (GJB) confirmed the issue, stating, “We have deployed officials to mend the issue but as of now we are not sure about the concerned authority of the pipeline.”
As of late evening, repair work was instructed but no official timeline for restoration had been announced. Authorities are expected to conduct further assessment to determine the origin and responsibility of the pipeline.
Further updates are awaited as the situation develops.
