GUWAHATI: Mathematician Anand Kumar has been directed by the Gauhati High Court to pay a fine of Rs. 50,000.

According to reports, based on a petition filed by students from Northeast India, studying at IIT-Guwahati, the court found Kumar guilty of contempt of court.

The division bench comprising Chief Justice Ajai Lamba and Justice A M Bujarbaruah directed Kumar to present before the High Court on November 28 and directed him to compensate Rs. 10,000 each to the five students from Patna and their guardians who were present in the court on November 26.

In the PIL the petitioners said that there was no transparency in the functioning of 'Super 30'.

The four students had alleged that Kumar had not disclosed the names of the 26 students who he had claimed had qualified in the IIT entrance examination in 2018 from his Super 30 institute.

"Anand Kumar, who is claiming himself a 'mathematician' and (is) projecting himself as a 'masiha' (messiah) of poor IIT aspirants by giving manipulated and false results is misusing (the) simplicity of innocent IIT aspirants and their guardians," the petition said.
