The woman was reportedly lured over a phone call and subsequently subjected to the sexual assault. She had reportedly travelled to Baghmara, Gauripur, to attend a family gathering when she received a call from Rezaul Haque, her legal husband who persuaded her to meet him. Unaware of the dangerous trap, she agreed, only to be ambushed by Rezaul and his accomplices.
The accused allegedly raped her in a public area and attacked her with sharp weapons, leaving her severely injured and unconscious. Locals discovered her bleeding and unresponsive, immediately notifying her family. She was rushed to Dhubri Medical College and Hospital.
Talking to GPlus, a police official from Gauripur said, “The FIR has been registered on March 2 where 8 suspects have been named along with Haque who is legally the husband of the victim. We suspect interpersonal issues in their relationship to be at play here. She has been recently released from the hospital and are waiting for her statement.”
Further investigations in the case are underway.
