GUWAHATI: From January 1, 2020 brides in Assam will receive 1 tola gold free of cost under the Arundhati scheme.
It is to be mentioned that earlier, the Assam Cabinet approved scheme to provide gold free of cost to the brides.
Under the scheme the government has proposed to give 1 tola of gold (11.66 grams) to brides' parents belonging to the economically weaker sections of the society.
The scheme can be availed by formal registration of the marriages under the Special Marriage (Assam) Rules, 1954 and will reach the beneficiaries at the time of marriage.
This scheme is only limited to economically weaker sections of society whose annual income is below Rs. 5 lakh. The scheme is applicable to all irrespective of caste, creed, religion etc.
