GUWAHATI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that the National Register of Citizens (NRC) will be part of a nationwide exercise and will be conducted afresh in Assam.
"The NRC exercise in Assam was conducted according to an act and also as per the direction of Supreme Court of India. The NRC exercise will happen in entire nation and then afresh exercise will be conducted in Assam too," said Amit Shah.
“The process of National Register of Citizens (NRC) will be carried out across the country. No one, irrespective of religion should be worried. It is just a process to get everyone under the NRC," he added.

Meanwhile, Amit Shah’s announcement has been welcomed by the Assam Government to update the NRC again.
