Four More Arrested In Connection With Viral Video Case In Manipur

GUWAHATI: The Manipur police have made significant progress in the investigation of the viral video gang rape case and apprehended an additional four main accused on Friday. The identity of the four apprehended have not been disclosed yet.

The incident, which occurred in the Thoubal district of Manipur, involved the appalling parading and assault of two women by a mob on May 4.

After almost two months, a video of the incident surfaced on social media, leading to nationwide outrage.

The prime accused, identified as Huirem Herodas Meitei (32) from Pechi Awang Leikai, was taken into custody on Thursday following a thorough identification process. He was seen in the viral video wearing a green t-shirt and holding the woman.

In response to the disturbing video and public outcry, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sent a notice to the Government of Manipur, expressing its concern over the mob's actions of taking away five family members from police custody, parading women naked, and assaulting one of them in B Phainom village, Kanpokpi district.
