Foundation stone of 19 cancer centres laid in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Foundation stone laying ceremony of 19 new cancer centres was held in the presence of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonwal, BJP National President Amit Shah, Hemanta Biswa Sharma and Ratan Tata at Khanapara Veterinary Ground today.

Amit Shah, Ratan Tata, Pema Khandu along with the Assam Ministers lit the lamp for the ceremony of 19 cancer care centres in Assam as part of the inclusive cancer care programme.

Under this project 19 units will be setup at Dibrugarh, Barpeta, Dhubri, Diphu, Jorhat, Karimganj, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Nalbari, Silchar, Tezpur, Tinsukia, Darrang, Goalpara, Golaghat, Haflong and Sivasagar and Guwahati.

These 19 cancer care units will be in touch with all the major cancer units in the country and will provide all the facilities to all the cancer patients of the state and said to be completed within 24 months.

Out of the 19 centres, around 6 centres are near the border of Arunachal Pradesh which will greatly benefit the cancer patients of Arunachal Pradesh.

Himanta Biswa Sarma while delivering his speech at the ceremony said that the entire project will require Rs 2000 cr out of which Tata Trusts will provide Rs 900 cr.

The state government will provide Rs 1030 cr and rest will be provided by the centre.
