GUWAHATI: Former Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha has been appointed as the new Chancellor of Assam University in Silchar.
This announcement comes following the conclusion of the five-year term of the previous Chancellor, renowned poet, lyricist, and director Gulzar, a few months ago.
Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha brings with him a distinguished career and a wealth of experience in the Indian Air Force.
He served as the 21st Chief of the Air Staff, overseeing the Air Force's operations and strategies from December 31, 2013, to December 31, 2016.
Notably, he also assumed the crucial position of Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee, a role reserved for India's most senior military officer.
In this capacity, Raha played a pivotal role in providing valuable counsel to the government and promoting collaborative efforts among the various branches of the armed forces.
Arup Raha's journey in public service began in Baidyabati, West Bengal. He received his education at Sainik School Purulia, and his family background includes his father's prominent role as a community doctor, as per media reports.
