GUWAHATI: A wild buffalo was shot dead by the forest department officials on Friday, 15th January last in Biswanath. The wild buffalo had previously killed 2 men and injured 3 others.

Two men, Sukur Ali (55) of Solmari village and Jayanta Das (45) of Muttackgaon were killed by the wild buffalo on Thursday and Friday. The buffalo had also injured three others.

After receiving the news of the death of Sukur Ali, forest officials rushed to the spot and tried to chase the buffalo towards the forest after which they planned on tranquilizing it. However the wild buffalo tried to attack the officials and the officials had to shoot it in self-defence. This was confirmed to G Plus by Mukut Das, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Biswanath.

“We planned on chasing it towards the forest and tranquilizing it, however, the buffalo came to attack us and we had no option but to shoot it. Everything was done in self defence,” said DFO Mukut Das.

Earlier on Friday, the angered villagers tried to attack the forest officials as they were dissatisfied with the action taken by the officials against the wild buffalo.
