Food Poisoning Outbreak After Naam Ceremony in Kamrup’s Mirza Leaves One Dead; Dozens Hospitalised

 


GUWAHATI: Following a naam ceremony held on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 28,  at Sanpara, Jharobari, Mirza Kamrup, approximately 70 to 90 attendees, including children, fell ill after consuming prasad.

As per reports, the attendees started showing symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea roughly 24 hours after eating prasad at a local temple. The affected individuals sought initial treatment at Azara Community Health Center (CHC), and the most critical cases subsequently were referred to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

Among the victims, a 6-year child identified as Kristilina Das, from Sanpara village has died en route to to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.
 

As of the latest update, overscore patients including children, are currently receiving treatment in the emergency parking lot of GMCH. Some of them require active monitoring while the remaining are reported to be stable. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with the initial diagnosis points towards possible food poisoning.
