Following recovery, two idols to be installed at Ugratara temple in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: After the police recovered the centuries-old idol of the Ugratara Temple, the temple management committee on Wednesday informed that the temple will now have two idols of the deity which will be installed with a religious ceremony.

A member of the Ugratara temple management committee, Kailash Sarma mentioned, “We were supposed to install the new Ugratara idol in the temple during the Ugratara Mahotsav. But, it is a blessing that the police recovered the original century-old idol. Now, we have to postpone the date of the Ugratara Mahotsav.”

He further added that the original idol will undergo some repairs before being installed in its original place in the temple.  

The police have arrested four persons, namely- Saan Hussain, Adil Ali, Rahul Ali and Mintu Roy in connection with the stolen idol.

The centuries-old deity was stolen from the temple on the night of November 15, 2018.
