Flood Situation Worsens In Parts Of Assam, One Dead In Golaghat

 

GUWAHATI: The Assam flood situation took a turn for the worse as one more casualty was reported, taking the death toll to ten. The deceased was reported to be a woman in Golaghat.

As per the latest flood report by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), three more districts are now affected by floods, making it five districts in total from the earlier two. The districts affected are Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Jorhat and Sivasagar.

A total number of 6,863 people are still reeling from floods in eight revenue circles of these districts. Dibrugarh is the worst affected district with 3857 people still affected by floods followed by Dhemaji where 2610 people continue to face the consequences of the torrential downpours and rising water levels.

The villages that remain affected have been revealed to be 31, with Sivasagar accounting for 20 of them. Furthermore, 166.73 hectares of crop area are underwater, as per the data released by ASDMA.

It has been reported that two rivers are currently flowing above the danger levels; Dikhou in Sivasagar and Brahmaputra in Nimati Ghat. Moreover, one relief camp in Dhemaji remains functional, which houses 48 inmates.
