Flood Situation Deteriorates In Assam

GUWAHATI: The Assam floods took a turn for the worse as 3,40,937 people are currently affected by the rising water levels in the state. A staggering 22 districts are now facing the consequences of the rising water levels.

Majuli is the worst affected district where 65,035 people are still reeling from floods, followed by Golaghat, where 58,439 remain affected. 52 revenue circles are affected in these districts.

The districts that are currently affected by floods are Barpeta, Biswanath, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Golaghat, Jorhat, Kamrup, Kamrup (M), Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, Tamulpur, and Udalguri.

A total of 818 villages remain affected by the ensuing floods, with 124 in Darrang itself followed by 105 in Morigaon itself. 21,644.43 hectares of crop area continue to remain affected by floods as well as almost 2.7 lakh animals.

Three relief camps are currently operational in the state, as well as 150 relief distribution centres. 1308 inmates are housed in these relief camps.

Moreover, four rivers are seen currently flowing above the danger level. They are Brahmaputra in Dhubri, Goalpara, Guwahati, Tezpur and Nimati Ghat, Burhidihing in Chenimari (Khowang), Disang in Nanglamuraghat and Subansiri in Badatighat.
