FIR Lodged Against Former NRC Coordinator Prateek Hajela in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The Assam Public Works (APW) has lodged an FIR against the former National Register of Citizens (NRC) coordinator Prateek Hajela at the the Anti-Corruption Branch, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Guwahati.

According to reports, APW demanded a high–level probe over the huge amount of corruption and misappropriation of government money by the former NRC Coordinator, Hajela in updation of NRC in Assam.

Further, the APW demanded an investigation into the appointment of numbers of retired government officers as his advisors.

"What types of work have been done by the said advisors are not known and further no records are avialable in tis regard and it is not audited by CAG," the FIR stated.

Earlier, a lawyer and a indigenous Muslim students organisation filed two separate FIRs against Hajela in Dibrugarh and Guwahati.

The Asom Garia-Maria Yuba Chhatra Parishad lodged the first complaint on Tuesday, September 3 at Guwahati’s Latasil police station, accusing Hajela of producing an expensive barmy document that left out many indigenous people.  

On September 4, All India Legal Aid Foundation member Chandan Mazumder lodged a complaint against Hajela at Dibrugarh police station. 

Chandan whie speaking to the media said, “I went for hearing at Chabua and after submitting all the documents, the officials had assured me that my name would appear in the final NRC. But even after producing all the valid documents my name has been excluded.”
