Mahanta had booked the cab Premier from Panjabari to Silpukhuri and requested the driver to turn on the air conditioning due to her dust allergy. However, the driver refused, stating he had not booked an AC ride and told her to get out if she wanted AC.

The situation escalated when the woman called her husband to ask about the ride categories. The driver then reportedly stopped the vehicle on a deserted road, verbally abused her, attempted to manhandle her, and forced her out of the car. Fearing for her safety, Mahanta exited the vehicle and sought help, later being hospitalised due to the traumatic incident.

In her appeal, Mahanta called on the authorities to address safety concerns in the city. She shared the vehicle's number on social media to bring attention to the incident.

Uber India responded with concern, requesting her contact details for further investigation, stating, “This is quite concerning and we wish to investigate this further. We take matters of safety very seriously at Uber, and we are deeply concerned about the incident you have reported. Kindly share your registered contact details via Direct Message. Our team shall follow up.”

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has urged the Assam police and Assam DGP GP Singh to take immediate action in response to the incident.
