GUWAHATI: The industry chamber Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in a statement informed that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will travel across India, even tier-II cities, to find out if businesses are being harassed by tax officials.

In addition to that, a technology-based platform will be set up where cases of harassment can be uploaded, without revealing their identity.

This news comes after the industry criticised the income tax department following the death of Cafe Coffee Day founder, V.G. Siddhartha.

It should be noted that before his death, Siddhartha left a letter in which he stated that he was being harassed by a private equity investor and had also faced harassment from a tax official, a charge which the tax department does not accept.
