GUWAHATI: Fear inadvertently but invariably leads to panic and then, to speculation.
It appears that the sudden death of city-based Dr Utpaljyoti Barman on Sunday had twitterati and social media going berserk linking it with the Coronavirus scare which is ruling the mind space of everyone in the city.
A fact check by G Plus revealed that Dr Barman died due to sudden cardiac arrest at GNRC hospital at around 2.45 pm on Sunday.
According to an employee of Pratiksha Hospital where Dr Barman, who was aged 44 was employed, Dr Barman died due to cardiac arrest as he was brought to the hospital from his home when he complained of uneasiness.
He added that the reports doing rounds that he died due to consumption of hydroxyl cholorquine - which was advised by doctors as precautionary measure to safeguard themselves from COVID 19 - is completely baseless.
In fact, some Facebook posts also said that many other doctors were also admitted in hospitals like Excelcare and Dispur Hospitals for the same reason.
When G Plus contacted Excelcare hospitals, Parkritish Bora, a well known pediatrician and part of the management of the hospital, said that Dr Barman died due to heart ailment and the reports doing rounds that he died because consuming hydroxyl cholorquine is not true.
Dr Bora also added there are no doctors currently admitted in Excelcare hospitals due to consumption of hydroxyl cholorquine.
