Assam Police Warns Public About 'Drugs In Parcel' Scam

 

GUWAHATI: Assam Police has issued a warning to the public regarding the 'drugs in parcel' scam, urging individuals to stay vigilant and learn how to protect themselves from falling prey to these deceptive schemes.

In a recent alert, Assam Police highlighted the modus operandi of the scam, where scammers pose as representatives of a courier agency and falsely claim that the victim has received an illegal package containing drugs. The victims are then coerced into a video call with a bogus police officer who claims to be investigating the matter. Subsequently, the victim is pressured into paying a sum of money to maintain confidentiality and avoid legal consequences.

The warning emphasises the importance of verifying the caller independently and never sharing personal information with unknown individuals. Additionally, the public is advised to report any such fraudulent activities immediately on the official website of the cyber-crime department at http://cybercrime.gov.in.
