GUWAHATI: In a significant development, the Guwahati Police filed a comprehensive chargesheet against Bandana Kalita in the Guwahati Double Murder case on Sunday.

A police official from Guwahati confirmed that the chargesheet had been submitted to the Chief Judicial Magistrate.

Contrary to specific media reports, the police official clarified to G Plus that the chargesheet filed is not 1600 pages long as previously speculated. Instead, it consists of approximately 1300-1400 pages, including relevant documents in addition to the chargesheet.

Last year, a shocking incident unfolded when a trainer at a gym in Guwahati was found responsible for the murders of her husband and mother-in-law over a span of two months.

The prime accused and alleged mastermind behind the gruesome killings, Bandana Kalita, along with two of her accomplices, Arup Deka and Dhanti Deka was arrested in Guwahati on February 19 for their involvement in the murders of Shankari Dey, Bandana's mother-in-law, and Amarjyoti Dey, her husband, which occurred between July and August of the previous year.

It was discovered that the trio had dismembered the bodies of her husband and mother-in-law before gradually disposing of the remains in Meghalaya.

The chargesheet filed by the Guwahati Police marks a significant step forward in the legal proceedings against Bandana Kalita and her alleged associates.

It may be mentioned that the Special Team, that was investigating the case, after having come to know about the whereabouts of the dead bodies/remnants of the dead bodies from the confessions of the arrested trio, swung into action and the trio were taken to the spots where the body parts of the two persons had been thrown overboard earlier in February

The team with the help of Meghalaya Police searched the gorges located at Aliangriat under the Sohra Police Station in Meghalaya.

Eventually, the team managed to trace the mortal remains of Shankari Dey. The same was brought to Guwahati for a post-mortem.

Other seizures in the case include:

1. Two mobile phones belonging to Bandana Kalita and Dhonti Deka
2. Dhonti Deka's vehicle bearing Reg. No. AS-01-JC-5795 (Hyundai Accent)
3. ATM Cards of Shankari Dey
4. ATM card of Amarjyoti Dey
5. Tattered clothes and a blanket of Shankari Dey (recovered at Sohra)
