Educational Institutes Across Assam to Reopen from November 2

GUWAHATI: Educational institutes across Assam will reopen from November 2 onwards, stated education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during a press conference on October 17.

"Students of classes 6 onwards will resume physical classes. Classes will be held in two sessions - 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM and 1:30 PM - 4:30 PM," Sarma said, adding that there will be no mandate to attend the classes as attendance won't be taken in schools and online classes will continue.

While physical classes for students in primary school till class 5 will remain suspended, such students may visit school for informal academic exchange and mid-day-meal. The decision to resume classes for students of class 1 to 5 will be taken in December, Sarma stated.

While addressing reporters, minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the SOPs for resuming classes for students, barring the primary level, would be in sync with the established COVID protocols.

Moreover, examinations will only be conducted for students in classes 8, 10 and 12. Students of all remaining classes shall be promoted without examination.

Polytechnic and Engineering colleges in Assam will also reopen on November 2 for offline classes. However, the hostels shall remain closed until November 30. The decision to reopen hostels will be taken later, informed Himanta Biswa Sarma.

He added that the University Executive Council will take decision regarding the reopening of universities across Assam.
