GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, September 29 in his radio address of ’Mann ki Baat’ said that the ban on e-cigarettes was implemented to prevent the youth of the country from falling into a new way of intoxication.

He stated that there are a number of misconceptions about the use of this device, one which even states that it is not harmful for health. However, this is not true as harmful chemicals are added to e-cigarettes which can deteriorate one’s health.

PM Modi further urged the public to not use tobacco and said that e-cigarettes are used as a “fashion statement” and is the new way of getting addicted to nicotine.

The government banned the production, manufacturing, import/export, transport, sale, distribution, storage and advertising related to e-cigarettes on September 18.
