Dry Day Declared In Guwahati For Srimanta Sankardeva Janmotsav

GUWAHATI: The District Commissioner of Kamrup Metropolitan District, Guwahati, has declared Sunday, October 13, a "Dry Day" in observance of the Janmotsava of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva. This declaration is in accordance with Rule 326 (b) (iv) of the Assam Excise Act, 2000, as amended in 2018.

On this day, all liquor-related activities, including the sale, distribution, or possession of alcoholic beverages, has been strictly prohibited. The order applies to all liquor establishments, including bottling plants, wholesale warehouses, retail shops, and hotel bars, which will remain closed for the day across the district.

The Excise Department and local enforcement agencies have also been informed in prior urgency to ensure strict compliance with the order, as the measure aims to maintain the sanctity of the religious occasion.

Authorities have warned that any violations of this directive will result in legal penalties.
