GUWAHATI: Kamrup Metro district administration has reaffirmed its directive instructing cable-owning agencies to properly secure and manage open and hanging wires across Guwahati.

The initial order, issued on February 11, required cable companies to address the issue within seven days of issuance. Despite the directive being widely disseminated through official channels, compliance has been uneven. While some agencies have taken corrective measures, authorities have noted that several locations particularly along the Airport-Khanapara route on the National Highway still have unsecured cables, posing potential risks.
With VIP and VVIP visits lined up in the coming days for major events such as ‘Jhumoir Binandini’ and the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit, officials are intensifying efforts to improve the city's aesthetics and safety. The latest directive, now made absolute under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, states that pole-owning agencies must remove non-compliant cables at the expense of cable operators. Additionally, provisions have been made for cutting and seizing undressed wires.
Authorities have emphasized that ample time was given for objections, but none were submitted within the designated period. With enforcement measures now in place, officials urge cable companies to comply immediately to avoid further regulatory action.
