Guwahati Railway Station To Host IT Hub After Revamp, Says Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw 

 

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati railway station is set to undergo a major revamp with a part of it converted into a world-class IT hub. This was announced by Union Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw while addressing a session 'Advancing semiconductor horizons for Viksit Bharat' during the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit on Tuesday, February 25.

Vaishnaw said, "Because of one semiconductor unit the ecosystem of Assam has changed, therefore there will be many other things in Assam."

The railway minister stated that within 10 months Assam will get two new Amrit Bharat trains. "The chicken neck in Assam will get four-lane railway tracks," the minister added. 

He said a railway project from Kokrajhar to Bhutan is on the brink of completion and will benefit Assam.

"National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT) University will come up in Jagiroad on evicted railway land," said Ashwani.

Meanwhile, ₹10,000 Cr has also been sanctioned to enhance the railway connectivity of the Northeast.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during the same session said that Guwahati railway station will have an 11-storey building where 9 floors will be IT hub. Furthermore, a railway manufacturing unit will be set up in Kokrajhar.

Several other announcements were also made during the session.

At the end of the session, nine companies from Singapore, Malaysia, and Japan signed MoUs with Tata Electronics to provide many elements required for semi-conductor. All these companies will set up their units at Jagiroad.

The Advantage Assam 2.0 summit, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, industry leaders, and global delegates, is set to conclude on February 26. Advantage Assam 2.0 summit also witnessed significant investment commitments from leading companies and investors, aiming to accelerate Assam’s economic growth and infrastructure development.
