GUWAHATI: The Assam Government has declared January 22, 2024, as a "Dry Day" in anticipation of the inauguration of the Ram Mandir at Ayodhya.
The decision was taken during the recent Cabinet Meeting held on January 7.
This decision is reportedly aimed at maintaining sobriety and respect during the auspicious occasion of the temple's inauguration. This comes after Chhattisgarh also declared January 22 as a dry day in their state.
Addressing a press conference, after the cabinet meeting yesterday, Assam Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah said, "To commemorate the inauguration of the Ram temple, the Assam government has decided to declare January 22 as a dry day."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to attend the Pran-Pratishtha (consecration) of Shri Ram Lalla in Ayodhya on January 22.
The Ram Mandir is a Hindu temple that is under construction in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, India. The site is the former location of the Babri Masjid which was demolished in the 90s.
The bhumi pujan ceremony for the Ram Mandir was performed on August 5, 2020, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The temple, currently under construction and is being supervised by the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. The inauguration of the temple is scheduled for January 22, 2024.
