Dr B.R. Ambedkar Bhawan Nears Completion Despite Pandemic And Legal Hurdles In Assam

GUWAHATI: In the Assam State Assembly, autumn session, as a reply to Rabiram Narzary, MLA, Bodoland People's Front, a question about the completion of Dr B.R. Ambedkar Bhawan, Pijush Hazarika, Minster of Social Justice and Empowerment mentioned that the construction is almost 90% complete.

“The progress of the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Bhawan in Dalgaon, located within the Gossaigaon town in the Kokrajhar, has reached 90%. This project is estimated at ₹1,66,66,000,” Hazarika mentioned during the session.

The construction work commenced on January 20, 2020, with an initially stipulated completion timeline of 18 months from the date of the work order's issuance. However, the unforeseen outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic threw a wrench into the project's timeline, leading to unavoidable delays.

Moreover, a legal hurdle emerged during the course of construction. Kamakya Das filed a T.S. Bearing No.55/2022 before the Hon'ble Munsiff Court, Gossaigaon, seeking a decree declaring the construction of the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Bhawan on the suit land as illegal. This legal dispute added complexity to the project and further contributed to the delay in its completion.
