GUWAHATI: Guwahati Municipal Corporation organized an orientation programme on Waste Segregation and Management at Don Bosco School, Guwahati.
The orientation program was addressed by Monalisa Goswami (Commissioner, GMC), Dr. Pradip Baishya(Specialist in Waste Segregation and Assistant Professor, AEC) along with other officials from GMC. Addressing the children, Dr. Baishya said, “The philosophy of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle to minimise waste should be adopted in every aspect of life, be it school, office or home. Segregate before it is too late. Recycle today to save our city tomorrow”.
Around 300 students from class 6, 7 and 8 participated in the programme along with the teachers of the school. Guwahati Municipal Corporation had launched the ‘I Love Guwahati’ campaign in the city which intended to create awareness on the importance of Waste Segregation and Management. These orientation programmes are one of the steps that GMC has taken to promote and propagate Swachh Survekshan 2019 in the city.

Youth, being the future torch bearers of the nation needs to be molded and guided properly on the concept of sanitation. Keeping this in mind, GMC has been conducting similar programmes in various schools and colleges of Guwahati.
This has also been organized in Cotton Collegiate, Happy Child High School and Sanskriti-The Gurukul, Guru Nanak High school earlier. In every school and college two Swacch Heroes are being selected from amongst the students, who will build up a team and take up the responsibility to keep the school and its nearby areas clean.
Speaking on the occasion, Father Sebastian Matthew, Principal, Don Bosco School said, “We are happy that GMC has organized this workshop in our school. It is very important that students take up responsibility on such causes and we as guardians should always support them, in order to make the city green and inhabitable for all.”
