Does India have Rs 80,000 Crore for COVID-19 Vaccines?

The CEO and Owner of Serum Institute of India, Chairman Adar Poonawalla has raised a concern regarding India's financial situation to fund a vaccine for everyone.

"Quick question, will the government of India have 80,000 crores available, over the next one year? Because that's what India needs, to buy and distribute the vaccine to everyone in India. This is the next concerning challenge we need to tackle," said Adar Poonawalla.

Serum Institute of India is a manufacturer of immunobiological drugs including vaccines in India. It is working on several vaccine candidates for the novel coronavirus, including one from AstraZeneca-Oxford University that has garnered global headlines, as well as developing its own.
