GUWAHATI: In a meeting of the Kamrup Metropolitan District Road Safety Committee, the Chairman, Sumit Sattavan emphasised the need to establish a secure transportation system in Guwahati.
He set a target to reduce road accidents by at least 50% in the current year compared to the previous year. Each department present was cautioned to remain vigilant in their respective responsibilities and duties related to road safety.
The meeting addressed the findings of the Save Life Foundation from Delhi, which visited eleven accident-prone black spots in the city district. The technical aspects of roads, flyovers, U-turns, and dividers were highlighted to strategise making these locations accident-free in the future.
The meeting also delved into issues such as wrong movements of vehicle users and arbitrary parking, emphasising the urgency of preventive measures against fatal accidents occurring due to heavy traffic congestion in the bustling Khanapara area in Guwahati.
