GUWAHATI: In a two-day statewide protest organised by the All Assam District Administration Employees’ Association (AADAEA), employees of the District Commissioner's office participated in a sit-in on Thursday, bringing work to a standstill. The protest aimed to draw attention to their long-standing grievances and demands.

Key Demands:

1. Grade Pay Hike: Employees are seeking an increase in the grade pay scale for all graduate staff in the district administration office.

2. Promotional Benefits: Supervisor assistants are demanding promotional benefits.

3. Job Creation: The call for job creation includes positions such as superintendent, accountant, and head assistant.

4. Increment for Process Servers: A three per cent increment is requested for all process servers.

5. Reinstatement of Chief Peon Posts: Employees are advocating for the reinstatement of chief peon posts, which were previously prevalent in the state.

The employees claim to have been advocating for their demands since 2016. Despite discussions with the Chief Minister, Finance Minister, and Chief Secretary, their demands remain unmet.

Ranjan Raidongia, the vice-president of the AADAEA central committee and advisor of the Dibrugarh unit reportedly emphasised the unique and demanding nature of their work in district administration offices. He expressed hope that the government would consider their demands seriously.

If the government does not address their concerns, the employees plan to go on a complete work strike on December 29. A state committee meeting is scheduled in Guwahati on January 3 to determine the next course of action.
