Will Banks Be Closed Across Assam On Good Friday? Check Details Here

GUWAHATI: Banks across several Indian states will remain closed on Friday, April 18, on account of Good Friday. However, banks in Assam will remain open, as the state is among the few where the holiday is not observed as a bank closure under the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) April holiday calendar.

Good Friday, a significant date in the Christian calendar, marks the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and is observed on the Friday preceding Easter Sunday. It is a gazetted holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, and is observed in many parts of the country.

According to RBI’s official notification, states such as Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and several others will see full bank closures on April 18. However, Assam, along with Tripura, Rajasthan, Jammu, and Himachal Pradesh, is not included in the list of states observing a bank holiday on this day.

This means banking operations in Assam will continue, and will involve in-branch services such as cash transactions, cheque clearances, account updates, and locker access will be available.

Customers in other states where the holiday is in effect have been advised to plan accordingly.
