DGP Kuladhar Saikia Reacts To Rumors Of His Term Extension

GUWAHATI: Amidst reports of Assam Director General of Police (DGP) Kuladhar Saikia getting an extension in his term, Saikia speaking to G Plus said, "I have not received any such information. As per my knowledge, my term as Assam DGP is ending on August 31, 2019."

Earlier, there had been reports of Saikia's term being extended due to a number of reasons, including the publication of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) on August 31.

There are reports of IPS officer Tapan Deka being appointed as the next DGP of Assam. 

Deka is a 1988 IPS officer from the Himachal Pradesh cadre and is working as the Joint Director, NE, Intelligence Bureau (IB) to handle the NRC/CAB situation. 

The IPS officer was an AASU leader during the Assam Agitation between 1980-1986. In addition, he also handled the 1993-2001 ULFA-related counter-insurgency operations in Assam. 

He was also the top spy of the country in Washington, USA between 2012-2015.
