GUWAHATI: In a New Year's address, Assam DGP GP Singh outlined a vision for the upcoming year, underscoring strategic directives aimed at elevating the overall policing experience and tackling critical issues afflicting the state.
The DGP on January 4 took to X where he listed out the directives.
As per the directive following are the key points of focus:
-Cyber Crimes Vigilance: A spotlight on combating cyber crimes is to be placed, particularly financial frauds that impact a significant number of people locally and globally. The misuse of financial institutions, and mobile, and internet platforms for cyber crimes is identified as a priority, urging a focused and proactive approach to handle these challenges.
-Traffic Management Overhaul: The directive states the need for a comprehensive approach to address road traffic accidents.
-Enhanced Investigation Techniques: The directive calls for further improvement in investigation practices, aiming for an increased rate of charge sheets and convictions by leveraging the full potential of forensics, aligning with legal frameworks like the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bhartiya Sakhshya Sanhita.
In addition to the focus areas, the directive emphasizes a "Zero Tolerance" approach within the Assam Police personnel for:
-Maintaining Sanctity of Police Premises: Police offices and stations are reiterated to be regarded as temples for police personnel and safe havens for citizens, especially women, children, and marginalized sections of society. Any form of sexual and financial misconduct within these premises remains strictly unacceptable.
-Improving Interpersonal Conduct: Striving for improved conduct and behavior towards junior colleagues and the general public is highlighted. Respecting and treating individuals with empathy is emphasised as a fundamental aspect of police professionalism.
-Abstinence from Inebriation on Duty: Remaining steadfast in the commitment to uphold professionalism, the directive maintains the stance that being inebriated while on duty or while wearing the police uniform is unacceptable.
